"Utopian Treasure" the story of a historic mask

                                                               Utopian Treasure

This futuristic mask called the “Utopian Treasure” was brought back to earth from a galaxy so far away most humans could only imagine what it would be like. This once stolen treasure was brought to earth buy a man named Rouge who has been known on earth since the beginning of time. This mask uses colour and shape to depict the simplistic yet complex minds and emotions of the earth and all the people that reside on this extraordinary planet.  In his recount of the events Rouge explains the history of this one of a kind mask, and how it is used to tell a story of the earth’s relationship and significance in the universe. The different shades of green show the simple beauty of the earth and the delicate balance of nature.  They help to show the beauty of the trees throughout the seasons and how even trees change over time. It helps to show how small minded we humans can be about the endless possibilities of the universe.  While in contrast to the previous section of the mask the star painted with cosmic blues and purples shows the everlasting changes in the universe. It’s used to tell the story of how while human kinds knowledge of the universe and everything around them may not be extensive, humans have still made progress , expanding their knowledge on the world around us and acknowledging  the fact that we are tiny and inconspicuous specimens in this infinite universe. This Utopian mask, the last token left of the earth in the future, has been used for trillions of years to show the rise and fall of the earth and its residents.

The use of exaggeration and distortion in art

1. How do exaggeration and distortion affect proportion ?2. What distorting effects can an artist use ? 3. Why do artists use distortion ? 4. How can artists create monumental qualities without using large scale

1. Exaggeration and distortion affect proportion because an artist can use it to draw attention to a particular portion of their artwork causing certain sections to look larger or smaller than in real life.

2. An artist can lengthen, enlarge, bend, warp, twist and deform a figure to make it appear distorted

3. A lot of artists use exaggeration and distortion to help to get their ideas and feelings and ideas across to the viewer better. distortion can make it easier for the artists to share their feelings in a way that makes it easier for the viewer to understand.

4. Artists can place a small head on a larger body to create a feeling of stability and calm. another way artists create monumental qualities without using large scale is through exaggerated proportions which can cause the artwork to look larger.

The basics of Space

1. Define positive and negative space.

In a work of art the positive space would be the shape or figure.
The negative space would be the empty spaces between and around the shape or figure.

2. What words specifically describe three dimensional art ?

Some words that describe three dimensional art are, over, under, through, behind, and around. This is because most 3 dimensional structures are made to be free standing, so the viewer must navigate around the negative pace in order to see the art from all the different possible sides.

3. What are the two types of relief sculpture ?

The two types of relief sculpture are high relief and low relief sculptures. High relief is when positive areas appear further out of the surface. Low relief is when positive areas project out slightly.

In the picture below he occupies the positive space of the picture, and the background is the negative space in the picture.

Jensen Ackles Value Drawing

Jensen Ackles drawn in value.

through the experience of drawing this portrait, i have learned that you shouldn't look at facial features as a nose or an eye but you should look at the smaller detail like the value of the nose or eye. Based off of the rules of value you should shade areas where light is reflected  a lot lighter than other areas of the face. I have manipulated the techniques used to show value to help me draw this picture of Jensen Ackles as accurately as i am capable.

the importance of Value

Value is fundamental in the world of art. Everything that we see in the world has value whether it be light or dark. We use value to see the textures of objects without actually touching them. Value is what shows us whether an object has a smooth reflective surface or a matte surface. When the shade of an object curves gradually or changes completely it shows you that the form is a curved surface or straight-edged. In addition you're face also has value. Since there are no true lines on your face the only way that you can see flesh protruding from your face (ex. noses) is based off of the different shades that help shape your facial features.

Creative representation of Organic and Geometric line

The harsh jagged lines on the geometric side of this image really help to show the differences between organic and geometric line. They help to display the characteristics of organic line and show that unlike the straight unwavering man-made lines on he geometric side, the organic lines cascade down smoothly mimicking the flow of a river.

Line Questions..

Art textbook line questions:
1. The author defines a line as "an element of art that is the path of a moving point through space."

2. A line is required to have a certain thickness, direction and dimension.

3. Dimension is the amount of space an object takes up such as, length, or height.

4. Artist can create lines in the paintings and drawings that they make by adding hash shading. They can create line in the buildings they paint or the flowers that they draw. They can also create implied lines with objects in their art for example, footprints.  There are many different ways that artists create line because it is one of the essential elements of art.

5. An outline is the outer line that we may see around an object which creates an edge even if it is not drawn there. An implied line is a line that is not actually there but instead suggested. Implied lines are created when our minds connect certain objects to form a line.
